Schools block MySpace because it's a legal requirement. According to federal law, if they make computers and Internet connections available to students, then they must be used for educational purposes. MySpace doesn't qualify as educational, so it gets blocked.

Another thing you have to realize is that whoever owns the equipment (school, workplace, parents, library, etc.) gets to make the rules for how it's used. If in their judgement MySpace isn't an appropriate site, it is entirely fair for them to block it.

If you don't like that, pay for your own computer and Internet connection and then you can surf wherever you want.

I know my employer blocks sites like that as well as web based email sites. A study of historical computer security breakdown indicated that the majority of the attacks made it in because of attachments or exploits from these sites. It isn't that every page on the site is bad, just that the corporation realized that the sites do have enough problems that they weren't willing to risk the site. Now the type of exploit apparently is related to the "human" factor, not a technology factor. When a number of the people click on the "cool screensver.exe" and it contains a virus, the systems can be infected if the users have administrative rights (which generally they shouldn't, but Microsoft operating systems, at least up until Vista). Not having admin rights generally caused usability issues as Microsoft and software vendors haven't learned to write their software to require less than full privileges.

Owners of networks also have the right to block content as you are using their network, not yours. If you want access to the site, you may have to do so from your home computer or wireless device (cell phone/pda with a wireless access plan).

I know you don't want to hear this, but you shouldn't even try because that is against the acceptable use policy at your school. They have sites blocked for safety and security reasons.

Trying to bypass their security is considered hacking and will get you banned from using any of their computers and probably even suspended or expelled.

They can see and track everything you do so you WILL get caught. Not being able to use the computers at all would suck way worse than just using them to view allowed sites - wouldn't it?

Unless you own the computer, finance and supply the network and PAY for the internet connection and the other resources, it would be improper for you to attempt to use it outside of the restrictions. You're obviously also quite immature if you all you care about is getting on myspace at school. Get a life and realize that there are more important things than getting on myspace at school. You're going to really screw yourself over in the long run if this is all you care about.

Any of the sites that supposedly go around the blocks that have been installed in you're school's server and/or network have the potential to really mess up the computer that you're on. I highly doubt that you want to mess up a computer because you WILL get in major trouble if you're caught or figure out that you messed up the computer.

If you have a flash drive, download Firefox web browser and install it and all its files at home onto your flash drive and bring it to school.

*Rename Firefox on of the applications on your computer that is not blocked if you can't get into Firefox or "Calc" (may work, may not).

When using Firefox go to "Tools" at the top and then to "Options..."

Click the Advanced Gear at the top of the window and go to the Network tab.

Not sure if myspace uses a SMTP server but if they do you could have port 25 blocked i think.. Check and see if content advisor is disabled in internet options 4th tab i think. Disable any firewalls to see if they stopping it.

It's not fair for people who are using the network to study and have to deal with a slow speed becuase there are 10,000 messaging programs eating up the speed.

They are called 'proxies', your school has probably already got most of the good ones blocked.

Even if you can find one that isn't blocked, they will notice the traffic going to it, and shut it down too.

You can use WEB BASED PROXIES.

you know, proxies are getting blocked by the network admins from schools or offices very fast. Do you really want to keep on asking or searching for working proxies everytime your current proxy has been blocked? Well, I don't think anyone would like to waste this kind of time...

So, check out this one. The proxy belongs to a proxy network called BPN, which updates new proxies every week. You just need to stick to BPN, then you could never worry about the same problem ever again.

BTW, BPN has just updated its proxies. Now you won't have any problem by surfing MySpace with BPN proxies!

i really don't know how. someone i know tried that once, and they got really close, but it didn't work. if you are at a computer in your school library, then you're pretty much screwed over. but if you are at a computer at an actual library, then go to a computer that isn't for 13 year olds and under.
