Schools block MySpace because it's a legal requirement. According to federal law, if they make computers and Internet connections available to students, then they must be used for educational purposes. MySpace doesn't qualify as educational, so it gets blocked.

Another thing you have to realize is that whoever owns the equipment (school, workplace, parents, library, etc.) gets to make the rules for how it's used. If in their judgement MySpace isn't an appropriate site, it is entirely fair for them to block it.

I know my employer blocks sites like that as well as web based email sites.
